Invisible Braces, What Are They?
Invisible braces, like traditional metal braces, are dental appliances worn in the mouth, designed to move teeth from an undesirable alignment to an attractive, fully functional alignment. They are available for use by adults and teenagers.
Dental practices offer invisible braces such as Invisalign in Weybridge, however there are a number of different types of near invisible braces available on the market with various differences to consider. These include ceramic brackets, lingual braces and clear aligners. Dentists in the area such as Weybridge Orthodontics can advise which ones work best for each patient.
What are the available options for invisible braces?
Just like traditional metal braces, in that they are attached to the front surface of the teeth, ceramic braces have tooth-coloured wires that blend in with the colour of the natural tooth surface. They are less noticeable than traditional metal braces but not strictly invisible. They are fixed and can be weaker than traditional braces due to the brittle nature of their components. The attachments on the teeth can cause irritation to the wearer.
These are braces worn on the inside of the tooth surface and are also called lingual braces. As the fittings are behind the teeth, this type of brace is truly invisible from the outside. They have a low profile meaning less prominence from the teeth, so tongue irritation is not too much of an issue. Most people get used to them quickly. They are not removable, which for some can be an advantage, and for others not.
This type of brace goes one step further with invisibility. Teeth straightening systems such as Invisalign in Weybridge use a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners which are worn over the teeth. They are custom made for each patient and manufactured with precision using 3D printers. Aligners are changed by the patient every 7-10 days for the next set. Because they are removable patients can go for short periods without wearing their braces, a feature that makes them very popular with Weybridge Invisalign patients.
Each option has its pros and cons. The best brace for each person will be different. For optimum results consult a braces dentist.
